Bondage Thoughts

Apologies for the lack of recent activity. I’ve been having a lot of fun doing sessions in London. Between those and visiting fancy restaurants it hasn’t left a lot of time for blogging.

On Saturday I was fortunate enough to play with Mistress Miranda at her Bondage Laboratory. We snapped many photographs which I haven’t yet had time to sort through. I’ll therefore do a more detailed write up in a later post when I’m back in Seattle. In the meantime I thought I’d share a thought on bondage that the session triggered.

It’s never occurred to me before but I think there are really two types of bondage: Reaction control and body control.

Reaction control is the sort of bondage most BDSM play features. It’s cuffing hands out of the way, fixing feet to a St. Andrews cross, tying someone spread eagle on a bed, etc. It’s the type of bondage you can forget about when other things are going on. I call it reaction control because it’s mostly about stopping reactions like pulling away or covering yourself. It’s enough to keep the body exposed and vulnerable but that’s all.

In contrast, body control is the kind of heavy bondage which seeks to immobilize all parts of the body. It’s bondage that uses multiple layers and techniques to lock things down. Think of straightjackets combined with straps, padlocks, ropes, harnesses and gags. You’re always aware of bondage that controls the body this way, no matter what other sensations you’re experiencing.

You could argue that’s this distinction is really just a matter of degrees. Bondage severity definitely exists on a continuum. However, I think there’s a distinction in intention and effect. Reaction control bondage is a precursor to the main event. Setting it up feels like a step to establishing a scene, rather than the scene itself. Body control bondage is the main event. It’s deeply arousing even before anything else has happened.

For example, take the shot below. This was the first set-up Mistress Miranda used in our recent session. There’s a body harness suspending me, a spreader bar on my ankles and stiff armbinders with mittens which are wrapped with straps and attached with rope to the spreader bar. There’s also a head harness which immobilizes the head and a gag. Layering all those components and feeling my body get locked into position got me into subspace very quickly. Even if the scene had stopped with the bondage, it still would have felt amazing. The various torments and pleasures that got added after the bondage were thus a very happy bonus rather than the main event.

Back in the Big Smoke

After doing a lot of family stuff over last couple of weeks, I’m finally back in London with a decadent weekend ahead. I’ve been reading a lot of bondage fiction recently, so planning to lean into that kink over a couple of sessions. Should be an uncomfortably fun time.

While I’m not planning on any inverted suspension scenes, I did like this image. It’s a little old fashioned in style – I’m guessing it’s from the 90’s – but the combination of simplicity and extremes is appealing.

Luggage

As I’m currently traveling, this seemed an appropriate image to share. One wonders what the storage arrangement inside the train is. Getting him into an overhead luggage bin would seem tricky. I’m picturing a special luggage van with rows of lock points for the wheels and the handle. Perfect for safely transporting all the slaves for the ladies on the train.

I found this via tumblr, but I’m certain it’s the creation of Loviante. You can get more of their work via their Subscribestar.

More Mummification

I hadn’t intended two posts on this topic, but here we are.

Part of the reason is that Cosmopolitan also posted an article on it, and it contains just as much handwringing as they other articles I referenced in the last post. Apparently wrapping someone’s body in plastic wrap is a super advanced kink that you should never do at home. Weird. It goes on to advocate for things like using a weighted blanket or noise cancelling headphones, which is pretty weak sauce. How about just telling people to not put anything around or above the neck?

However, the main reason for a second post is that I saw this post on Twitter. It’s by LustTek and, as far as I can tell from other posts like this and this, they’re building their very own mummification machine. It’s the kind of crazy kinky idea that is both totally OTT but also kind of awesome. I love to see projects like this. Although of course, this one actually is really dangerous! You could solo wrap yourself to death. Let’s hope Euphoria don’t decide to use it in Season 4, otherwise hand wringing in the press will be off the charts.

More mummification does let me feature an expert in it – Mistress Hinako. I’ve featured her work before (for example here and here). The shot is particularly sexy, given the contrast between the extreme mummification and her casual pose.

You can find more from Mistress Hinako on her website, her blog, her instagram and twitter.

Euphoria

The HBO show Euphoria is generating a bunch of coverage for its depictions of kink. It’s not a show I care to watch, so I’ve no idea how fair (or not) its coverage is. If the goal is controversy and debate, it’s certainly managed that.

The latest kink it has drawn on is mummification. That in turn has generated a lot of hand wringing about it’s potential dangers. For example, this Metro article and this in LAD Bible.

The concern seems a little misplaced to me. Or, perhaps more correctly, doesn’t draw the right distinctions. Wrapping plastic over the face for breathplay is definitely dangerous and not for beginners. However, that’s a different thing in my mind to mummification. Wrapping the body below the neck is a lot less risky. It’s not something to undertake lightly. You should always make sure you’ve done basic research, go slowly and have safety shears to hand. But it’s not a high risk activity like breathplay. In some ways it’s easier and less risky than regular bondage. A simple plastic wrap has less chance of causing nerve damage or twisting body parts awkwardly. I’ve done mummification lots of times and always felt safe. Only a small fraction of those experiences involved putting anything over my face.

This mummification shot from The English Mansion does feature something over his face. However, I doubt he’s going to object too much in this case.

A Right Rogering

It’s that time of year again. Tax season. My friendly tax preparer (actually recommended to me by a domme!) sent me the details today. Ouch. Normally when I get screwed it’s a lot more fun. There’s something particularly annoying about it this year. It’s one thing if I can imagine it going towards healthcare or education, but sending money to scum so they can blow stuff up in the Middle East is particularly galling.

Anyway, I think it’s mandatory for this kind of post to feature someone getting screwed, so here we are. That looks a pretty stressful set-up, so that also seems appropriate.

Not sure of the original source for this, but I’d guess it’s from one of the Kink.com shoots.

Accessorizing

What caught my eye in this image wasn’t the latex, bondage and milking device, yummy though all those things are. It wasn’t even Lady Delphine’s shiny and beautiful bottom or cascading red hair. What caught me eye was the crutches and eye chart on the wall. I can’t imagine they’d ever be useful for a scene, but they do add the appropriate ambience. It’s always nice to see the extra little touches that people bring to a playspace.

This was sourced via Lady Delphine’s Bluesky feed. She’s a Toronto based pro-domme. If you’re interested in experiencing her healing hands yourself, then her professional site is here.
