Unhappy BDSM

I’ve referenced the Happy BDSM tumbr fairly often in the past. It’s not femdom specific, but it’s still one of my favorite tumblrs. If anyone ever fancied switching it around and doing an Unhappy BDSM tumblr, then I think this image would be a great one to start with.

Personally I think watersports can be incredibly hot, but these two seem less than enamored of it. She looks like she can’t quite believe what’s happening, and he looks like someone who just discovered his play partner had asparagus for lunch.

This is obviously from the Japanese Rose Lip site. I found it on the Felm Cyber tumblr.

Double standards

I cast a pretty wide net when it comes to articles I feature here. I’m not averse to featuring something that’s interesting but with only a loose connection to femdom. This one, entitled ‘The insane double standard for women working in tech‘ is a good case in point.

It highlights a study that found that in performance reviews men get assessed on their actions, where women get assessed on their personality. In 83 reviews of men, just 2 highlighted personality issues, where out of 94 for women, an amazing 71 did. As you might expect, the personality issues highlighted for women were all the usual ones about tone: You’re too pushy, too aggressive, too abrasive. The kind of characteristics that countless men in the workplace display every day of their lives without issue.

I’m not going to try and equate being an effective and forceful worker with dominance. That would be foolish. Sexual preferences are very different to work attitudes, and the goal here is equality of treatment, not the right D/s label. But I think it’s an interesting example of the broader cultural perceptions at work. Society is comfortable with the classic dominatrix trope, as it’s typically perceived as a sexual roleplay targeted for the benefit of men. Yet put a forceful opinionated women in a software company, along with a 100 forceful opinionated guys, and then suddenly people have a problem.

WorkplaceI realize with this image I’m not really helping and I’m continuing to play into the dominatrix trope. Unfortunately, on the tumblrs I frequent, it’s tricky to find a shot of a sensibly dressed female software developer making a solid argument for the design of her database schema. So sexy dominatrix boss it has to be.

Vintage horsey

Based on the title of the original tumblr post, I’m guessing this is from a 70’s edition of Escapade magazine. Most likely the February edition, given the glaring domme on the cover.

As a rule that was not a great decade for erotic photographs, yet this shot works pretty well. The hideous fashions of the era are fairly muted, and they look like a couple having fun. She even has a touch of the 50’s pin-up about her.

Minimalism

Regular readers will know I often like to do a series of related posts, picking on a common theme. In this case I’m going for a post of contrasts. The last one featured excessively ornate decor. This one has no decor at all. It’s almost surreal in it’s level of minimalism. It comes courtesy of the Coiled Up site, and this sequence of striking pegging images. While the decor may be minimal, that big shiny strap-on certainly isn’t.

Dubious decor

No matter how long her whip, or how sternly she points, I don’t think I could take any scene seriously when surrounded by that decor. She’s undoubtedly an attractive lady in a hot outfit. And I’m all for getting away from cliched dungeon shots. But that carpet, floral wallpaper and short chaise lounge remind me too much of my grandmother’s parlor. I’d never be able to relax. I’d be naked, vulnerable and constantly expecting a small old lady to pop in and ask if we’d like a cup of tea and a slice of cake. Oh, and were we really sure that was hygienic? Well just as long as your nice new friend has washed her hands dear…

Interesting Decor

The image is originally from the Only Tease site. I found it via the darksehnsucht tumblr.

Defined Lines

I featured a video parodying Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines last summer. It turned out to be a song and video ripe for parody, with even Weird Al getting in on the act. I recently stumbled on another particularly excellent example, that I’m sure my readers will enjoy. It’s called Defined Lines and is by the Law Revue group. To give you an idea of the theme let me quote some lyrics – “Let me emasculate you, because your precious dick can’t beat my vibrator.” Amazingly it even got briefly pulled from youtube for inappropriate content, which boggles the mind given some of the things to be found there.

Admittedly I’m about 12 months late bringing you this link, but hopefully it’ll be new to some of my readers. There are leashes, clingfilm bondage, scantily clad guys, forceful women and pointed lyrics. In other words, it’s all sorts of good things.

James Franco’s Kink

I’ve been waiting to watch the kink documentary for a while now. It first popped up back in 2013, but it seems Mr Franco is practicing a form of tease and denial, because it has been very hard to track down. There’s a new trailer out, which you can see in this recent article/interview on the film. Yet, despite a release date of August 22, I can’t seem to find a showtime anywhere for it. So while millions might be browsing kink.com‘s erotic material via tumblr everyday, the documentary remains more elusive than a helpful comment on youtube.

Claire Adams and EuroSex

The image is from the kink.com site Men in Pain. It features the brilliant Clarie Adams and the strangely named but equally great EuroSex.

There is only one thing in life worse than being talked about…

I had a pleasant surprise when browsing one of my favorite tumblrs recently. The site in question is the Happy BDSM one, and the pleasant surprise was that the owner had reposted the text from one of my posts. Image reposts aren’t uncommon, but to see my text posted was unusual. I say it was a pleasant surprise, but my initial response was actually to be puzzled. For just a moment or two I wasn’t sure what I was reading. I knew I’d seen it somewhere before, but couldn’t quite put my finger on where…

The purpose of mentioning all this isn’t to brag (well, maybe a little), but to make an observation on the brilliance of the tumblr design philosophy. I spotted three different bits of my writing reblogged to the tumblr (also here and here). My original posts generated a grand total of 3 comments from my readers (for which I’m grateful). The three reposts to tumblr generated a total of 208 notes (either likes or reblogs). That’s a 70x increase in feedback over the originals, and I think that’s mainly down to how tumblr lowers the barriers to sharing and participation. Writing a comment on someone else’s blog can sometimes feel like an intrusion into their space, where reblogging on tumblr feels more like a compliment delivered in you own space.

Following the theme of happy BDSM, here’s a lady enjoying herself. His expression isn’t all that clear, but I like to think he’s smiling under there.

Tongue Out

I’m afraid I have no original source for this image. Anyone pondering the post title should take a look at this.

Day & Night

Courtesy of this Huffington Post article I discovered this photographic series by Forest McMullin. Entitled Day & Night, it features pairs of photographs with kinksters in their daily life and then dressed for play.

The article itself is kind of a silly one. It has a sense of wonder and surprise that kinky people can have ‘normal’ daily lives. I get the feeling the author expected BDSM aficionados to spend their days dressed in leather or crawling around on all fours. Rather than a ‘Hey, normal people can be kinky!’ message it ends up being  a “Wow, some normal people are secretly freaks!” one.

As for the photographs, I do like the variety of people they show. Photographs peeking inside kinky lifestyles are nothing new, but shooting pro-dommes in New York or inside trendy fetish clubs in LA is one thing, shooting regular folk from Georgia is a little different. I just wish the settings had been, for want of a better expression, slightly less porn-y. Most shots feature dungeon equipment or fancy toys. I get that makes for a better contrast to the ‘daily life’ shot, but I’m not sure it’s representative of a lot of kinky people. Some pervertibles from Home Depot and less in the way of fetish wear might have made for more realistic and quirky shots.

That said, I have to say I particularly enjoyed the shots of Adriana, Dea, Suzina & Tim, and Kim-Lady_Hotchkiss (shown below).
