Tech Work To Sex Work

Continuing the theme of NYC domme’s, the image below is Mistress Serafina. She was recently featured in a Mashable article on Tech workers who transitioned into Sex Work. While everyone interviewed seems to be thriving in their new careers, the reasons they moved are sadly all too common for women in tech.

“I really did experience sexism at every turn in my [corporate] career,” shares NYC-based professional dominatrix, Mistress Serafina. “From my first interviews out of college, I was propositioned by my interviewers, then I was propositioned by the principal engineer at my first job. I was repeatedly looked over for opportunities, and told in my performance reviews that my tone was too fiery.”

For someone like myself, who has worked in tech for 20+ years, it’s a depressing story. The whole area needs a major cultural shift. More women in engineering and product development would help, but we’ll never get there is we keep driving talented people like Mistress Serafina out.

  1. Sad, that to this day, in the 21st century, members of my gender, in the STEM fields, still feel entitled to objectify their fellow human beings and view everything that strikes their fancy as rightfully theirs for the taking.

Don’t get me wrong! I don’t mind being objectified under certain very specific contexts, with trusted individuals where such objectification was mutually negotiated and constantly consented to. The work place, however, should never be such a place in RL (in fantasy, yeah, but to feel entitled to actualize fantasies or even believe that any form of propositioning, however the proposer might think them mild, inoffensive or flattering, at the work place, with non consenting fellow human beings, is just plain wrong, IMHO).

    1. Amazing that it has been an issue in STEM for so long and yet still continues to be such a major problem. Companies talk a lot about the problem, but don’t really seem to do concrete things to fix it.

  2. Mistress Serafina here. I appreciate you picking up this story and featuring me on your blog!
While the sexism I experienced in the tech world certainly left a bad taste in my mouth, it also compelled me to follow my calling as a Dominatrix and I’ve never been happier!

    1. Thanks for stopping by to comment! Lovely to hear from you and good to know that things are working so well. Given the subject matter, I can’t say I enjoyed the article, but it’s an important topic. Thanks for sharing your story.
