Moderation Madness

Tumblr continues to stumble along, a shadow of it’s former self. I just got an email out of the blue telling me that some of my tumblr content was flagged as adult. This is for a dormant femdom tumblr site I haven’t touched in 5+ years. I mean they weren’t wrong, it was adult content, but that’s a hell of a moderation lag time.

Amazingly people are still curating and maintain adult blogs on there. They seem to get blown up fairly regularly, but I have to admire their persistence. Some examples viewed via tumbex are here, here, here, here and here. Hopefully my recent email isn’t a sign that a new purge is starting and they’re all about to vanish.

This beautiful image was sourced from one of my favorite surviving tumblrs – madam is all. Its curator has a good eye for content and their site has been my source for a number of posts here. This particular example is watermarked, but unfortunately I’ve no idea how to go about translating that text into a web search for a proper attribution.

Update: Thanks to a helpful comment – I think this is by this photographer.

  1. Oh dear. Imagine all the minds you have corrupted over that five or more years, Paltego. Thank goodness Tumblr’s morality squad finally spotted it and took action. With luck, it’s not too late for Western civilization.

I too hope Tumblr doesn’t change , as it’s the source for most of the images I scrawl captions across. I actually quite like their current policy. I can find endless supplies of images of extraordinarily beautiful women in all sorts of situations, of leather clad dommes, of ladies looking stern, of latex clad maids and suchlike… without being overwhelmed with ‘tits and arse’ and the more porny material that isn’t what I am looking for.

A bit like your thing about AI a few posts back: the things that I find erotic are not the explicit porn shots. But then as we’ve discussed before, Tumblr’s approach to obscenity is a bit weird. It will happily publish posts of mine featuring brutal torture and non-consensual sex (don’t worry: all directed at males, so no one of consequence is depicted as coming to harm), as long as no naked female breasts are displayed. I don’t usually have those anyway: generally, the captioned images I can’t publish on Tumblr feature naked males, usually hard at work in some muddy quarry in the North of England or being abused in the grounds of a castle in the Czech Republic.

Anyway, for those of us publishing insensitive and immature content, it’s a perfect source. Don’t change, Tumblr: we perverted freaks need you to be just as prudish as you are, but no more.

    1. I’m with you in liking the less explicit shots. There’s only so much you can do with naked bodies. Add some clothes, props and interesting settings, and the possibilities get a lot more interesting.

I think the big problem with current twitter is that it seems so haphazard in how it blocks or kills sites. Good sites that are mostly fine seem to get randomly blown up, presumably because they had 1 or 2 naughty images too many. As you say, explicit captions seem fine, as are artistic naked bodies. You just can’t have the wrong type of naked body shot.
