Phonebox Cards

Finding a pro-domme in the pre-internet days was a little trickier than doing a simple web search or browsing twitter. Advertising options were a lot more limited and everybody had to work harder to make contact. In London through the 80’s and 90’s, one common mechanism was to put advertising cards in phoneboxes. The image below is a collection of these cards from Mistress Electra Amore. They’re clearly from a mid to late 90’s era, as a few do have web site addresses on them.

If I’d been brave enough to go looking for someone back in my early 20’s then Mistress Cleopatra (or Cleo-Patra?) would certainly have caught my eye. Of course a blurry photograph on a small card is no guarantee of who you were eventually going to meet. These days most pro-dommes have dozens of professionally taken photographs on their sites, along with social media feeds packed with selfies and candid shots. I almost never hear of bait and switch tactics being employed. I’d guess they were a lot more common 20 or 30 years ago.

  1. Ah, the good old days. I may even have visited some of these ladies. It was a bit like Russian roulette as you could never be quite sure quite what you were letting yourself in for. I had some pretty awful meetings including one lady who turned out to be a man. I have nothing against male dominants but I think he should have mentioned it when I rang. That said I met my long term Mistress over 25 years ago through a card like this and once I had found her I didn’t need to take the risk with any other Mistresses on cards.

    1. Your experiences definitely aligns with what I’ve heard from others who played in that era. Quality, accuracy and honesty seemed to vary pretty dramatically! Happy to hear your spins of the wheel eventually found success and resulted in a long standing relationship. If at first you don’t succeed….!

  2. Lovely tart cards, paltego. Can remember ‘m well. Not a phone boot in the UK that went without, in the 70s and 80s. Always good for a giggle or two.
Thanks for diggin’ ‘m up or out and sharing.
    Regards

    1. Glad you enjoyed the post. Good for a giggle is a great way to put it. I remember being initially shocked by them in London in the early 90’s, and then entertained by them after that. And I still find it incredibly how phone boxes went from an essential part of the urban environment to antiques in a decade or two.

Thanks for stopping by. Hope you’re healthy and safe.
