The White Witch

Most kinky people can point to moments in their youth where they had a sudden awareness of their kinky side. It can be almost anything – a scene on TV, a particular outfit, a movie character – but whatever it is, their kinky wiring goes ‘Bzzzzz!’ They might not even understand exactly what is happening or why, but there’s a sudden rush of both excitement and curiosity.

My favorite version of these are the really early ones. The ones that triggered me even though I was too young to know about sex or kink. Where I remember a strange attraction to something, but it’s only obvious in hindsight why. The existence of these events before I reached adolescence speak to the very deep and intrinsic nature of my kinks.

I discovered a new one recently. A tweet mentioned the White Witch of Narnia, from the books by C. S. Lewis, and suddenly a penny dropped. I think I was around 9 or 10 when I read them and I remember being fascinated by the White Witch. Particularly the scenes where she seduces Edmund with warm furs and Turkish delight. There was also her habit of turning disobedient creatures into statues. In hindsight the idea of a cruel, powerful and sensual woman with a taste for objectification and fornophilia would be an obvious draw for a young paltego. It’s just taken me a few decades to realize why.

This is Tilda Swinton in the role as Jadis the White Witch, from the 2005 movie.

  1. This is really an off-message comment about what can happen (or not) when books are adapted into movies.
The most famous book in the Chronicles of Narnia is The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and of course, the image here is from the movie adaptation.
The first book in the series is The Magicians Nephew which explains who Jardis is and where she is from and finally, how she got into Narnia in the first place and why there is a gas street lamp in Narnia. There BBC adaptation (which I think you must have seen, Pattego) and the movie adaptation both miss it out completely. Its a great shame. Incidentally, the Professor’s sister is the mover and shaker in TMN and looking with a kink-aware eye, I think you could say there was a bit of the FLR going on …

    1. I’m not sure I ever did see the BBD adaptations. I did watch the first movie at one point, but don’t remember being particularly impressed. I used the shot of Tilda Swinton here as it seemed appropriate to the post, but she didn’t grab me in the movie.

I did read all the books as a kid, and actually really liked the Magicians Nephew. I don’t remember the Professor’s sister, but I do remember thinking that book was lighter and more entertaining than some of the others in the series. Lewis did a pretty good job of retconning the Jadis character to create her backstory.

Thanks for taking time to comment. I just did another post on this very topic, which I’m sure you’ll see :-).

  2. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the White Witch comes off that way, as C. S. Lewis had masochistic fantasies. I did a quick search for a reference, and picked this one more or less at random:

“Most scandalous is the revelation that Lewis, at least prior to his conversion, had sado-masochistic tendencies. There can be no doubt about this, for Lewis refers to it in his own letters. This information is robbed of some of its sting, however, by the absence of evidence that this indulgence ever involved a second party, and may well have served only to fuel onanistic fantasies.”

    1. Yes. There’s definitely some strong hints he had a kinky side. I just put up a follow-up post on that very topic :-).

That was an interesting link. Thanks for both sharing it and taking the time to comment.

Nothing so erudite as this for me. I think it was while watching the 1960s Batman TV series, with the slinky Catwoman outfits, and imagining being tied up, etc.

Then, when I was older, the cover of some SciFi book, with a character being held by a tentacled but feminine alien.

Sorry, I’ll see myself out now.

    1. Oh, Catwoman was definitely up there for me as well, particularly when it came to bondage scenes. That was great stuff. *Sigh*

Oddly, while I love a lot of the weird and kinky old SciFi cover art I find today, I don’t remember it too much from childhood. I think I just read a lot of Clarke, Asimov and Dick, which tended to avoid the sexy cover motifs. Or maybe our local library had a particularly puritanical librarian.

      Thanks for stopping by!
