The NY Post has an article suggesting spanking can reduce anxiety and interrupt fretful thought loops. It’s probably just an excuse to feature a sexy pic or two, but I’ll take a mainstream article with a positive spin on kink. Particularly one that’s gender neutral and doesn’t take male dominance as the default.
I always used to find thwacky impact play soothing, but in the last year or so it has been more of a mixed bag. I think my skin has got more sensitive as I’ve got older and sometimes blows will trigger itching and an unpleasant heat. Maybe I just need to moisturize more. Certainly when I can get into the right zone, a good spanking is a lovely way to destress.

I’m not sure of the source of this photograph. I have a suspicion it’s really old. Not 100% sure but it reminds me of a spanking series that was floating around on usenet 20+ years ago.
I’ve always found impact play relaxing and even though I’ve experimented with other kinks and experiences I always come back to spanking, strapping and caning. I’m a pensioner now but I haven’t noticed that my tolerance for pain has diminished with age. Having said that every Mistress I’ve played with has said that I can take a more severe punishment than most. Some have even asked if my disability, I had polio in the 60s and have quite severe mobility problems, means that I have reduced feeling in my bottom. My standard reply to that is “No and what would be the point of this if I didn’t feel it”. In the picture the Mistress is using a carpet beater an implement which after the cane is my favourite. It seems to combine the swish of a cane with the thud of a paddle/strap. I’m hoping to experience a spanking, caning, strapping and carpet beater later this week and I will be relaxed and happier following them.
I’m not sure I’ve ever been hit with a carpet beater. It’s not an implement that shows up in many dungeons over here. Kind of a shame, as it does look fun. Like you say, it seems like it’d have a nice blend of characteristics. I’m not sure my pain tolerance has changed with age, it just seems to be a skin surface reaction I sometimes have. Annoying.
Hope you have a great session in the week, with many fun implements, and end up leaving both happy and relaxed!
