Ballet, Fashion and Fairy Tales

A lot of fairy tales have a healthy undercurrent of sex and kink to them. There’s imprisonment, bondage, torture, bestiality, sacrifice and all sorts of inter-generational power games. What’s not to love about that?

The image below comes from a re-telling of Snow White, with costumes by Jean Paul Gautier. The evil queen is dressed much as I always imagined her – ‘with thigh-high black boots, latex and leather strap work.’ This new version of the fairy tale comes from Angelin Preljocaj and is currently playing at the Sydney Opera house. Sadly, while the costumes are great, I don’t think it fulfills my other fantasy about the story, where the evil queen triumphs and corrupts the prince into all sorts of wonderful depravity.

On the road again

It has been at least a couple of weeks since I was on vacation in San Francisco. So that can only mean one thing – time for another vacation. This time I’m heading East rather than South, and stopping off at several destinations. Much kinky play and good food remains the goal.

Today I flew into Chicago, which is just about close enough to Seattle to make it feel like a short jaunt rather than a long journey. I entertained myself en-route with music via the crappy ear buds that came with my phone but, after seeing this article on BDSM cage headphones, I now realize I need to step my audio game up. Apparently while I was simply listening to music, I could have been making a kinky social and fashion statement, all for the low low price of $6,450. I’m not sure if pulling on a set of these headphones on a flight would attract amusement or a takedown by an air marshal. Let’s just say I wouldn’t want to risk it on a United flight.

Zendaya of Arc

The recent Met Gala was themed around the Catholic imagination. I know for some people a combination of religious themes, high fashion and beautiful people would be a rich source of hot imagery, but religious iconography doesn’t do much for me. That is until I saw the outfit worn by Zendaya and created by Versace. Admittedly, given it’s based on Joan of Arc, it’s more historical than religious, but holy hell. What an incredible look. Not exactly ideal for riding into battle in, but great for wearing to the celebratory ball afterwards. I just wish she’d accessorized it with something sharp and spiky.

Terminal

Fans of deadly femme fatales may want to look out for the movie Terminal staring Margot Robbie. I know basically nothing about it, other than the trailer features a very femme and very fatal looking Margot making wisecracks while shes tortures a man handcuffed to a bed. If you’re anything like me, that’ll put you first in the line when the movie comes out in May.

The image below is Margot doing her best haughty domme stare in a shot for V Magazine. If you’d like to see more of Margot in a PVC catsuit, there’s an image gallery from the shoot here.

Cate Blanchett in Leather

This photoshoot from Sean & Seng for 032c magazine isn’t exactly femdom. In fact there’s a couple of images in there of Cate in Shibari style bondage. But I did like this particular shot of her sporting a leather jacket and just a glimpse of her boot tops showing. It’s considerably better than the outfit she was stuck with for the recent Thor movie. It’s quite an achievement to cast Cate Blanchett as the Goddess of Death, dress her in a tight leather catsuit, and have her look as silly as this. Admittedly, it works better in action, but it still seems a missed opportunity. The Dark Knight Rises might have been a ridiculous movie, but at least they knew how to get a tight leather costume right.

Tense

I’m feeling tense. Not normally a good thing for someone on vacation, but these are special circumstances. I’ve did a couple of different sessions on my first two days in town. One with Mistress Chloe and one with Domina Yuki. Both were a lot of fun – I even featured on Mistress Chloe’s twitter feed – but both also left my somewhat on edge, if you get my drift. I’m also on scout’s honor not to take matters into my own hands. So while my bruises may be slowly fading, my sexual stress levels aren’t.

Matters haven’t been helped by the hot weather in SF, which means everyone is out wearing skimpy summer clothes. I’m trying not to temporarily turn into one of those men who instinctively twist their neck to watch an attractive woman go past. I think the world is already probably over quota on middle aged male letches, and doesn’t need me to add to it.

This image was shot by Sergei Pons for Yo Dona magazine.

The Kingdom of Women

If you’ve hung around femdom blogs long enough, there’s a good chance you’ll have heard the Mosuo mentioned. They’re an old Chinese community who, as far as I know, are the only example of a matriarchal society in the world. Women sit at the center of their world, with the Grandmother the focus of the family unit, and the traditional idea of marriage doesn’t exist. Relationships are female driven, with men taken as temporary lovers in order to provide sperm or sometimes as longer term partners if their company is deemed enjoyable.

I mention them now because this Guardian article popped up today with a detailed description of their culture, in both its positive and negative aspects. Although it seems a very feminist culture, the focus on motherhood and children undercuts that initial impression. Women are in control, but that control stems from their role as mothers. The idea of not having children isn’t considered one of their choices.

Of course, as so often happens, unique and unusual cultures tend to get distorted and then ultimately destroyed when they come into contact with the modern Westernized world. The Mosuo are no exception. If you’re interested in learning more about them before that happens, the article is based on a book by Choo Waihong.

I believe this image of a non-traditional twist on a traditional Western marriage look features Jake and Pum Lefebure and was photographed by Dean Alexander.

Travelling

I’m heading to Las Vegas tomorrow for a long weekend of food, wine and a game or two of poker. Apologies in advance if posting is therefore a bit erratic for the next few days.

Unusually, I’m planning to squeeze in some kinky fun. Vegas isn’t top of my places to visit for kink (as I’ve written before), but I feel in need of some pain and torment, and not the kind that comes when somebody cracks my aces in a Texas Hold-em game.  I’ve lined up a couple of sessions and hopefully I’ll some nice marks to remember the trip by. Possibly even some photographs to share here.

Sadly I’ll be bankrolling all my own gambling. Mr Bond may get the gorgeous Eva Green with a million dollar credit line and a private game to play in, I’ll likely be stuck with drunk tourists, grouchy locals and a coupon for the casino buffet.

This shot of Eva Green is (I believe) from a fashion shoot by Ellen von Unwerth.

The Lioness

I hadn’t intended to turn yesterday’s post on ‘woman staring into middle distance with man at her feet’ into a series, but then I spotted this image in my queue and couldn’t resist. The lady encouraging the man back into the pool is the great Catherine Deneuve, famous for her roles as (to quote wikipedia) aloof, mysterious beauties. This looks like a fashion magazine shot, but I’m not exactly sure for what. From zooming into the text it looks like it was photographed by Ellen Von Unwerth in NYC in 1999.
