A Cat Continuation

After featuring cats in yesterday’s post, it would be entirely out of character if I didn’t use that as an excuse to follow it up with a Catwoman themed post. In this case the great Julie Newmar.

There have been a number of interpretations of the character in movies over the years, and they’ve all had a number of things in common. They’ve featured talented actresses, in slinky constumes and who were all cursed with terrible scripts. The early shows and movies with Julie Newmar, Eartha Kitt and Lee Meriwether were fun but campy nonsense. Michelle Pfeiffer looked great in Batman Returns, but the movie itself was a big letdown after the first Tim Burton Batman. Similarly, Anne Hathaway was great in the role, but stuck in the terrible Dark Knight Rises. And the least said about the Halle Berry Catwoman film the better. It’s really amazing how Hollywood can squander so much talent and money, and yet still not give us a good Catwoman movie. Let’s hope I’m not writing a similar thing about Wonder Woman in 12 months time.

Julie Newmar as Catwoman

    1. Probably the earliest kink memory I have (assuming I’m actually remembering it correctly) is watching Burt Ward’s Robin trapped by Julie Newmar’s Catwoman in a giant cat’s cradle roping/webbing. But instead of fearing for Robin in that predicament, I realized I wanted to *be* Robin instead. It all flowed from there, at least for me…

      1. I think my equivalent of that would be in the Revenge of the Pink Panther movie, in the scene with Tanya and the whip. That definitely was an eye-opener for me when I first saw it. Although I also had an odd fascination with the Penelope Pitstop cartoons as a child, particularly the scenes where she’s tied up, which was also probably a harbinger of things to come…

    2. I think that’s true for a lot of guys. At least based on the comments I’ve had here int he past :). I don’t have a clear childhood memory of the Julie Newmar version (although I watched those shows later as a teenager), but I do remember being intrigued by Lee Meriwether via a TV re-run of the movie when I was a kid.
