I’m surprised the folks at kink.com get time to short porn with all the documentaries they’re featured in. The James Franco one has been mentioned here before. The latest I’ve discovered via this SF Bay Guardian article is called Public Sex, Private Lives. There’s an interview with the director here. It was funded via kickstarter and according to its website…
…is an intimate look at the professional and private lives of porn performers Lorelei Lee, Princess Donna, and Isis Love. Capturing moments of joy and struggle, this film follows the characters as they navigate their lives as artists, daughters, mothers, writers, and women who have made careers in the adult industry.
It sounds interesting and if I was in San Francisco still I’d love to attend the Doc Fest to see it.
I also think that kink.com is missing an opportunity here. The porn industry is ripe with parody. Given that documentaries on kinky porn are almost a niche in themselves now, they should start filming mock documentaries that spoof the idea and turn into actual porn. Perhaps the ‘documentary’ film crew could get gradually drawn into the D/s dynamic and blur the lines between subject and observer in Man Bites Dog style (minus all the murder). So then you’d have a film crew filming a film crew filming a film crew filming porn. Or is that just too meta?
Given the documentary stars Princess Donna (among others), that seems a perfect excuse to feature some shots of her in action. This is her with Orlando for a Men In Pain shoot. I particularly like this first swinging shot.
