Nice outfit. Shame about the set.

There’s an old quote that runs along the lines of – “The problem with pornographic movies is that they objectify women, they degrade the viewer and they’re so terribly badly lit.” For BDSM porn I often think you could update that quote by talking about the sets rather than the lights.

The faux-medieval dungeon look that crops up in a lot of professional scenes is one annoyance. They’ll have a model dressed like a latex fetishist’s wet dream, in a space modeled on a medieval castle (this for example). These two things do not go together. Or you’ll have shots like below, where it looks like they’ve paid no attention at all to the set. I actually like her outfit. It doesn’t do much for me erotically, but I appreciate the details and effort that has gone into it. But what’s with the TV unit, bedroom furniture and sloppily undressed guy? The outfit screams fancy equestrian fantasy scene and the set suggests we couldn’t be bothered to leave the house on a wet Wednesday afternoon. It’s hard to fantasize about the haughty Miss Tippington-Cambell disciplining the insolent stable boy when it looks like they’re in a suburban semi in Croydon (read that as townhouse in Des Moines for my US readers).

Nice outfit. Shame about set.

There’s not watermark but I think this is from the Strict Women site. They typically feature more conventional domestic scenes with (usually) conventional dress. I found it on the Hoejhael tumblr.

  1. Didn’t know you were in the UK paltego despite following the blog for months now.

What room are they in? There’s a bed but also a full-on TV stand with all the usual living room stuff.

    1. Actually I live in Seattle in the US. I’ve been here for about a decade. I grew up in the UK and only moved to the States in my late-20’s, so my cultural background and references (and humour) is very rooted in Britain.

I’ve no idea what the room is. I’d guess a bedroom, with the TV stand as part of the bedroom set-up and the chair brought from the dining room for the scene itself. But it’s pretty tough to say for sure. It’s definitely a weird combination of furniture and outfits.

  2. I have to agree. I quite like the outfit the boots and the whip. I like his pose but should’n’t he be wearing clothing from the same period? Blue Jeans seems very out of place. And the backdrop (as you say) simply has got to go! The TV stand really kills it. Other than all that nice photo! 🙂

    1. I’m actually not sure if her clothes are period or just particularly fancy equestrian get-up. So maybe a casually dressed submissive might be OK. But if you’re going to pull his pants down, do it properly! And the backdrop’s definitely a mood killer.

      Thanks for dropping by hmp.

  3. LOL I have that Ikea TV stand…

It looks like a dorm room.

I don’t know if I’ve ever told you this, but I hate the term “dungeon” for…well, a dungeon. A dungeon I used to work at had a room that was themed like…well, a dungeon. It was cheesy, like one of those “romantic” themed-hotel suites that advertise on late-night cable.

Whenever I was in the dungeon room, I’d think of that scene in the Mel Brooks movie about the history of the world…”The Inquisition.”

    1. I’m with you on the dislike of dungeon as a general term for a commercial session space. I think there are way better options (studio, play/session space, etc.). I wouldn’t mind too much if they actually had themed dungeon rooms with the appropriate medieval style furniture. Still cheesy, but at least it wouldn’t be too different to a medical space or a school room space. Instead they always seem to consist of a complete mishmash of stuff that doesn’t go together.

When it comes to movies I always think of the scientists condo in the Steve Martin movie ‘The man with two brains’. There’s a nice series of site gags they do with it. The Mel Brooks scene is pretty classic, but his dungeon does actually look pretty good compared to most BDSM versions 🙂
